QR code types

Every kind of code you can make, split by the thing that actually matters: whether the content lives in the pattern itself, or behind a redirect you can edit.

Static types — content encoded in the pattern

These need no account and no subscription, work with no internet connection at scan time, and can never expire. They also can never be edited or tracked. Free to make here, with no signup.

Dynamic types — a page or redirect you control

These encode a short address and resolve through us, so the destination is editable after printing and every scan is counted. They need an account; the free plan includes three.

Choosing between them

The deciding question is whether you will ever want to change where the code points. If the answer is a confident never — Wi-Fi credentials, a contact card, your own homepage — static gives you permanence for free. For anything else, dynamic is worth the dependency, provided you pick a platform whose terms say what happens when you stop paying.

The full comparison, including a middle path most people miss: a static code pointing at your own domain, where you control the redirect yourself.
